Medical Oxygen

Passengers who for medical reasons require therapeutic oxygen during the flight can utilize the therapeutic oxygen service provided by the airlines or use a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) of their own.

Oxygen provided by LAN:

The oxygen cylinder service provided by LAN is available exclusively on domestic flights within Chile and Peru.

If the passenger is traveling alone, he or she must present medical certification indicating that he or she is capable of self-administering the oxygen. Otherwise, he or she must travel with a companion.

The oxygen service must be requested 48 hours prior to the flight's departure for flight within Chile (not including Easter Island).

For flights within Peru, each bottle of dry oxygen costs US$ 50 and for flights within Chile, each bottle costs $30.000. Bottles can be requested through our Call Center or any LAN sales office.

Oxygen provided by the passenger:

In addition, passengers requiring medical oxygen during the flight can travel with a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC), as long as they fulfill the conditions detailed below.

Authorized Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POCs)

Only the following brands and models of POC are accepted aboard LAN flights:

(*) Passengers who carry with them the Airsep Corporation’s Airsep “Lifestyle” and SeQual Technologies Inc.’s Eclipse models and who need them throughout the flight (including take off and landing) may only travel in Economy and Premium Economy classes, where these can be placed under the seat in front of the passenger.

Important: Aeronautic regulations prohibit the use of other personal oxygen units, including those that contain compressed or liquid oxygen as they are considered dangerous goods.

Travel requirements:

Request period:
Once his or her travel plans have been confirmed, the passenger must contact our Call Center or a LAN sales office at least 48 hours in advance to ensure the corresponding procedure.

Required medical certificate:
The passenger must process a Medical Certificate, which is a document completed by the treating physician and authorized by LAN's medical department, allowing the passenger to travel. This procedure can be realized at any LAN sales office.

Passenger declaration:
In addition, the passenger carrying the POC must provide a signed declaration when checking in at the airport. To download this document, click here.

Conditions for passenger boarding

Refusal to let the passenger board for failing to fulfill the travel conditions does not constitute grounds for an exception in the fare regulations for the purchased ticket.
