When travelling, check the information you should know to transport your baggage.

Passengers can carry baggage both in the cabin as well as in the aircraft hold. In both cases LAN regulations in this regard must be obeyed. If not, it may be considered as prohibited baggage.


Carry-on Baggage

This refers to those personal effects brought onto the airplane by the passenger, free of charge and considered under their custody and their responsibility.

Carry-on Baggage

Any baggage exceeding the allowance is sent to the aircraft's hold. If it is prohibited baggage it will not be transported.

Checked Baggage

Checked Baggage

Refers to all baggage checked at the airport which goes in the aircraft’s hold. The dimensions and maximum weight of each piece of baggage (regardless of the charges paid for excess baggage) are:

Maximum volume: 203 cubic cm. (width, length, height).
Maximum weight: 23 kilos *

* Except connections with Iberia, British Airways, Qantas, flights to and from Europe and Oceania, where the maximum weight is 32 kg.

All baggage not complying with these features must be sent through LANCARGO.

Checked Baggage allowance

Regulations for transporting LAN passengers' baggage is determined by the route and the cabin in which the passengers travel.

Maximum 2 pieces, both weighing 23 kg in total.
  • Governmental exception:
    Outgoing and incoming flights originating in Brazil (*)
    (*) Except between Brazil - South America and Caribbean
2 pieces, 32 kg each.

Important: If your trip requires more than one flight to reach the destination, there may be differences in the baggage allowances for each flight. LAN respects the more permissive allowance in the following cases:

  • Connection: an intermediate stop of less than 24 hours.
  • Stopover: an intermediate stop of more than 24 hours (from the origin to the final destination, only if the route corresponds to a single purchase).

Baggage not complying with this allowance will be charged excess baggage.

Allowance for infants

Children 2 years and younger (between 0 and 1 year 12 months) may carry one piece weighing 23 kg in the aircraft hold. In addition, if there is available space, one of the following special baggage items may be carried in the plane’s cabin:

  • A stroller
  • A chair
  • A bassinet

If there is no space available, this item is transported in the aircraft's hold.
