Galapagos Islands
Approximately 1000 kilometers (621 miles) offshore from Guayaquil is the Columbus's Archipelago, home to Galapagos National Park which is one of the most attractive sites in Ecuador and a habitat for giant turtles, prehistoric iguanas and a variety of other unique species.
The area is covered in heavy vegetation and consists of a series of 13 large volcanic islands, 6 smaller islands and 107 rocks and islets.
