Destination guide: San Pedro de Atacama
About San Pedro de Atacama
San Pedro is an old village in the north, 105 kilometers south-east of Calama, a city in the middle of the Atacama Desert that is connected to the rest of the country by a paved highway.
This oasis is the starting point for trips to various attractions such as the hot El Tatio geysers, the Valley of the Moon and the Valley of Death (with steep dunes, great for sand boarders), the Atacama salt flat (inhabited by beautiful flamingoes), the Pukara de Quitor, the Puritama thermal baths and the Padre Le Paige archeological museum.
