Unaccompanied Minors


Children may travel alone as an "UM" (unaccompanied minor). Children aged between 5 and 11 who travel without adult company will be in LAN’s custody during the whole flight.

Once the flight is over, our personnel will accompany them and hand them over to the receiving person. If they have a new connection with LAN, they will be under our personnel’s custody until the new flight.

The service is optional or mandatory depending on the age of the minor:

The adult responsible for the child traveling as an UM must fill out the Transport of a Minor Form provided at the airport at the check-in counter.

Requesting the service

The UM service is not available through LAN.com. It must be requested a minimum of 24 hours prior to the flight’s departure exclusively via our sales offices or Call Center.

IMPORTANT: LAN must have previously confirmed the service for the child to be boarded. Minors who arrive at the airport and for whom the service has not been confirmed will not be boarded.

Flight changes are subject to the conditions of the fare purchased.

Recommendations and suggestions

We recommend using this service on direct (non-stop) flights, so the UM travels directly and avoids connections or being in transit.

Remember to label or identify carry-on baggage with the relevant contact information and only pack what is indispensable for the trip, avoiding objects of value that may get lost (such as laptops, cameras, video games, etc.).

When checking in at the airport,arrive at the check-in counter well in advance in order to make the necessary arrangements for the service. The adult responsible for the child traveling as a UM must complete the Transport of a Minor Form, which is provided directly at the airport.

The responsible adult must stay at the airport under it has been confirmed that the flight has left.

Itineraries and routes

The UM service is available for children who travel on all LAN-operated flights and on all connections within the same day and from the same airport. UMs are not, however, accepted on flights that require an overnight layover or on flights with connections operated by other airlines, either prior to or following the LAN flight. 

Service fee

For LAN domestic flights within Chile, Peru and Argentina, a service fee of US$15 is charged per flight.
For LAN international flights, a service fee of US$75 is charged per flight.
