  • Market and Destinations

    From north to south, LAN covers a total of 16 destinations through out the country, including the route to Easter Island, with 76% participation in the domestic market.

    • On average, approximately 6.5 million passengers are transported within Chile each year.
    • Additionally, LAN flies from Chile to regional and international destinations in the United States, Europe, and Oceania.
    • The number of passengers transported has been expanded steadily in the last five years, accumulating an average annual growth of 15%.
    • The amount of flights to the northern part of the country increased by 23% as a result of the mining development.


    • LAN’s domestic service in Chile has modern and renovated  airplanes from the Airbus family (A320, A318, and A319), which have been designed with the most advanced technology in the airline industry, and are highly efficient in terms of fuel consumption, resulting in a significant reduction of the contribution to global warming and noise levels.

    LAN has twenty four airplanes for domestic routes, which average three years of age.

    Passenger law

    LAN supports the law which guarantees  passenger  rights. In this sense, from an industry perspective and in accordance with international passenger rights trends, the company needs to créate ways to provide passengers with more information on their rights in the event that flights are suspended, delayed or cancelled.

    From LAN's standpoint, increasing the quantity and clarity of data to aviation officials can result in better service and more information for the passengers.

    New Fares in South America

    • In February of this year, new permanent fares for traveling within South America were launched, allowing passengers to travel from Chile to the rest of South America, without promotional prices. 
    • This is an important change to the way LAN operates its flights within South America, which   gives more and more people the opportunity to fly with the company, as a long-term commitment  to passengers.
    • This translates to a price drop ranging from 7% to 42%. For example, Buenos Aires decreased by 25%, Sao Paulo by 42%, Lima by 21%, among others.
    • Since the new fares were launched in February 2012, ticket demand has increased by 40% for flights within South America.

    LAN’s strategy to offer these new fares aims to make flying an everyday experience for more people while also bringing South American tourism to Chile. In recent years, the main target has been tourist passengers.

    New Routes

    Regarding the new route to Chiloe.

    As of November 7, 2012, LAN added its 16th destination, incorporating Chiloe Island,where the company flies to/from Santiago with a stopover in Puerto Montt.

    LAN began to operate the route with four weekly flights. The approximate flight time from Puerto Montt to the Mocopulli Airport is 35 minutes. The fares start from Ch$42,000 pesos plus tax from Santiago to Chiloe, and Ch$8,000 pesos plus tax from Puerto Montt to Chiloe.


    LAN Colombia

    Market and Destinations

    A year after its creation, LAN Colombia transported 3.2 million passengers on domestic routes, representing an increase of 17.6%.

    • The company currently has 22 routes to 20 destinations within the country, as well as direct international routes from Bogota to Miami and Sao Paulo, round-trip, carrying over 3.5 million passengers.
    • LAN Colombia was launched officially on December 5, 2011, becoming the fifth South American country with domestic operations offered by this company. However, since November 2010, an in-depth airline organization plan has been initiated in order to fulfill LAN standards around the world, based on four pillars: reliability, safety, organizational structure, and cost-effective.


    • LAN aims to bring more and more people to the attractions which Colombia has to offer. Therefore, it undertook an alliance with Proexport in order to work together to promote Colombia as a well-known destination in the international tourism circuit, which is necessary for the country and for the tourist sector.


    • The Colombia LAN fleet has 7 Boeing 737, 6 Airbus A320, and 8 Dash 8-200, for a total of 21 aircraft.

    New Routes

    • In February 2012, LAN Colombia launched the Bogota- Miami route, and in June of the same year, it launched the Bogota- Sao Paulo route.
    • In response to the demand from corporate travelers, the airline added new flights from Bogota to Valledupar, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Medellin and Cali.


    LAN Ecuador

    Market and Destinations

    • LAN Ecuador began domestic operations in 2009. Since then, it has made a great contribution to the development of Ecuador’s air transportation.
    • LAN Ecuador has five domestic destinations: Quito, Guayaquil, Galapagos (San Cristobal and Baltra Island), and Cuenca, connecting passengers to tourist attractions in the country.
    • With regard to its international operation, LAN Ecuador connects the country to the major centers of interest abroad, such as: Miami, New York, Madrid, Lima, Santiago and Buenos Aires.
    • In 2012, LAN Ecuador transported almost 1.5 million passengers: a 13% increase compared to the previous year, mainly due to an increase in domestic routes.


    • In line with providing the best service to its passengers, and in accordance with the high safety, reliability, and service standards, in 2011 LAN Ecuador renewed its short range fleet by incorporating three new Airbus A320, replacing the Airbus A318 airplanes, which were removed from service.
    • Currently, LAN Ecuador’s domestic fleet is made up of five Airbus A320 planes. This year, a new airplane of this model will be incorporated.

    New Routes

    • In November 2011, LAN Ecuador began operations to The Galapagos from San Cristobal Island, with two weekly trips from Quito and Guayaquil. This is equivalent to Baltra Island’s daily operation.

    Fuel subsidy

    • Due to the decision by the Ecuadorian government to eliminate the fuel subsidy from Ecuadorian airlines, and in accordance with the global airline industry trends, LAN Ecuador needs to apply a fuel surcharge to the fare, which varies in accordance with the international price of petroleum.


    LAN Peru

    Market and Destinations

    • LAN Peru has a 62.05% participation in the domestic market and serves 14 destinations within the country. With up to 110 daily flights inside national territory one of LAN Peru's domestic flights takes off every five minutes.
    • LAN Peru has up to 20 daily flights to Cusco, Peru’s main tourist destination, up to 10 flights to Arequipa, 6 to Pirua, 6 to Iquitos, 4 to Juliaca, and 3 to Tacna, among others.
    • LAN Peru transports more than 4.5 million passengers across the country each year.
    • 94 regional flights a week, serving the cities of Sao Paulo, Iguazu, Quito, Cali, Medellin, Bogota, Caracas, Santiago, Santa Cruz, La Paz, Cordoba, and Buenos Aires.
    • 49 international flights to the cities of Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mexico City, Madrid, Cancun, Punta Cana, and La Habana.
    • Between national and international routes, LAN Peru transports close to 6.8 million passengers a year.


    • In 2012, LAN funded $400 million dollars in operations to purchase three new LAN Peru airplanes: one Airbus A319 for domestic flights, and two Boeing 767 for long-haul international flights (United States, Europe, and Oceania).
      With this purchase, the LAN Peru fleet has 23 Airbus A319, 15 for domestic flights and 8 for regional flights within South America, along with 8 Boeing 767.
    • The LAN Peru Airbus fleet averages four years of age, which makes it one of the most modern fleets in South America.

    Promise to the community

    • LAN Peru is very committed to the country’s economic development. It has seven Social Responsibility programs which are geared primarily towards promoting sustainable tourism, taking care of the environment, and childhood protection.
    • The company has a high degree of social and environmental responsibility to the country, and to the people of Peru, which is aimed at promoting community and environmental development.


    LAN Peru is a very competitive market with 16% annual growth rate.

    The projects for 2012 include:

    • New maintenance base, which was opened in April 2012, and required an investment of $35 million dollars.
    • New CAE Training Center, with an investment of about $30 million dollars. (October 2012).
    • Construction of a new Corporate Office, which required an investment of $20 million dollars.

    Lima as the HUB

    • LAN Peru continues to work toward strengthening Lima to be a strategic  connection point for international flights, allowing the region’s connectivity to increase with Central America, the United States and Europe.
