Papeete is the capital of Tahiti, an island located in the middle of the South Pacific and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Polynesia. Its beaches are unique, blending in with the greenery of the mountains and creating scenery of rare exotic beauty.
On arriving in Papeete, visitors are welcomed with a traditional flower lei and the sound of ukuleles and they are given shell necklaces as farewell gifts. On touring the city, you’ll see how multicultural this corner of the world is, with inhabitants of European, Polyneisan and Oriental descent.

Pape’ete is really just a medium-sized town (by Western standards) of moulding architecture with a lively port, traffic and plenty of smiling faces to pull you through it all. Sip a cappuccino at a Parisian-style sidewalk cafe, shop the vibrant market for everything and anything (from pearls to bright pareu – sarongs), dine at a roulotte (mobile food van) in the balmy evening, or dance the night away with the beautiful people. All roads in French Polynesia eventually lead to Pape’ete, so you might as well scope it out.
Sailboats are once again docking along portside Blvd Pomare, where you’ll find paved walking paths that meander past blooming planter boxes and the occasional tree.
