  • Rio de Janeiro - Weather Overview

Rio lies only a few dozen kilometers north of the Tropic of Capricorn, so it has a classic tropical climate. In summer (December to February), it is hot and humid; temperatures around 28°C (82°F) are common, but days sometimes go above 40°C (104°F). Frequent, short rains cool things off a bit, but the summer humidity makes things uncomfortable for people from cooler climates. At other times of the year, temperatures are generally in the mid-20s °C (low 70s °F), sometimes rising to 31°C (88°F).
