Clases de Servicio LANWorking For The Environment

The main objective of LATAM Airlines Group's environmental strategy is to be world leaders in Climate Change, contributing with the efficiency and competitiveness of the company. Contemplating these topics allows us to reach our goal of turning ourselves into one of the top three airlines in the world.

Fuel Consumption and Management

The air transportation industry is strongly committed to developing sustainable fuels, and here at LATAM Airlines Group, we have joined that commitment. The company supported research on new technologies with bio-fuel and believes in the potential mass production of these technologies as a promising market opportunity.

In the last years, the Group advanced in the studies on alternative fuel technologies in collaboration with local distributors, with the objective of promoting the use of bio-fuels. In 2012, LATAM Airlines Group operated their first commercial flight in Chile, South America, with bio-fuel. In 2013, this took place in Colombia. The company is committed to increasing the number of flights of this type in the future, when use is more widespread and prices have become competitive.

Despite these research advancements and evidence related with alternative sustainable fuels, its widespread implementation depends on the development carried out by fuel, motor and aircraft manufacturers, in addition to the creation of public policies that promote its use.

If land operations correspond to a small fraction of the Group's carbon footprint, initiatives such as the use of electric vehicles and substituting incandescent lights in hangars for efficient lighting have been implemented, among other measures that were taken as a result of reducing costs and emissions.
