F.A.Q about the association
We are very pleased to announce that the association between LAN Airlines and TAM airlines, creating the LATAM Airlines Group, became effective today. Together, we hope to make air travel simpler and more accessible, making it easier for people in South America and the rest of the world to connect.
LATAM Airlines Group has chosen oneworld as its global alliance. No, you can only redeem your LANPASS kilometers on oneworld airlines and LANPASS member airlines.TAM will thus be joining oneworld, an alliance with a strong presence in flights available between Latin America, the United States and Europe -three of the most frequented international destinations of passengers of LATAM Airlines Group- in addition to the Asia-Pacific region. TAM is expected to officially join oneworld as soon as it withdraws from Star Alliance. That date will be announced this year.LAN’s frequent flyer program (LANPASS) will undergo no change. All benefits currently available to members who fly LAN and the oneworld airlines will stay the same.Since all our airlines will be in the same global alliance, LATAM Airlines Group will be able to offer the best connections and products to our customers. This means a more coherent and effective value proposal for our passengers. This alliance offers an important network of connections, namely:
TAM will be leaving the Star Alliance in the second quarter of 2014. The exact date will be disclosed this year. Until then, its customers may continue to accumulate points, redeem tickets on the routes of this alliance and make use of its benefits normally.TAM’s frequent flyer program (Fidelidade) will not be changed in any way because of this new alliance. Its members will maintain their kilometers/points that they have accumulated by flying on the Star Alliance, in addition to their frequent flyer category. We at LATAM Airlines Group will ensure that the transition of TAM’s passengers from the Star Alliance to oneworld takes place peacefully and smoothly.Members of the oneworld Alliance are currently Airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, CathayPacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines, in addition to 30 other affiliates. SriLankan Airlines and Qatar Airways are in the process of joining.
