Passengers requiring medical authorization to travel

It is very important that passengers who have a specific medical condition present their medical history. This is to ensure that there are no existing medical counter-indications that make it inadvisable for the patient to travel.

LAN recommends using the standard Health Information Form (MEDIF).  This document consists of two parts, both of which must be completed:

• The first part must be completed by LAN's sales office or the travel agency that issued the ticket, or, if necessary, by the passenger.
• The second part must be completed by the doctor treating the passenger.

After it has been filled in, the MEDIF form must be handed in at one of our sales offices or at the travel agency at least 24 hours prior to departure.

Who do we recommend should obtain medical permission before travelling?

• A newborn or lactating infant who requires oxygen or any type of monitoring.
• Newborns aged seven days or younger.
• Women with high-risk pregnancies.
• Women who have given birth within the last seven days (in the puerperium period).
• Passengers who have undergone surgery in the last 10 days.
• Passengers with cancer or other terminal illnesses.
• Passengers with high-risk mental or psychiatric conditions
• Passengers with infectious and contagious diseases.

Who must have a medical certificate to travel?

• Passengers who require a stretchers.
