Los Angeles is a key worldwide hub for one world ® , with six of the alliance's established member airlines offering more than 150 flights a day to more than 40 destinations worldwide from the airport - while new alliance member elect Mexicana operates more flights from Los Angeles International than any other non-US carrier.
American Airlines is one of the biggest single airlines serving the greater Los Angeles area. From its own Terminal 4 at LAX, it and its regional affiliate American Eagle, which is also part of one world, offer 135 non-stop flights a day to 29 destinations throughout the USA . American also connects Los Angeles daily with six international gateways - London Heathrow, Tokyo Narita, San Salvador ( El Salvador ), Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos ( Mexico ), San Jose ( Costa Rica ) and Toronto .
Within the Los Angeles region, American additionally offers services from John Wayne Orange County, Ontario , Palm Springs , Santa Barbara , San Luis Obispo , and also from nearby San Diego .
Qantas increased its Los Angeles frequencies just ten days ago, with three more round trips a week between LAX and Australia, giving the airline a total of almost ten departures a day from the airport. It now serves Melbourne twice daily, and Brisbane and Auckland daily. It also flies to Sydney 17 times a week, including one a day originating from New York JFK.
Other established international one world carriers offer a further nine departures a day from LAX between them, all from the Tom Bradley Terminal:
British Airways flies to London Heathrow three times daily.
Cathay Pacific serves Hong Kong three times daily.
Japan Airlines flies to Tokyo Narita daily.
LAN flies to Santiago daily and LAN Peru to Lima daily.
Member elect Mexicana operates the biggest schedule from LAX of any non-US airline, with xx 106 daily departures to a total of 10 12 destinations in its home country - Cancun, Cullacan, Guadalajara, Leon/Guanajuato, Mazatlan, Mexico City, Monterrey, Morella, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta, San Jose Cabo and Zacatecas.
This also makes LAX Mexicana's biggest airport operation outside Mexico and the third biggest in its entire network. In addition, it serves nearby Ontario and will be the only one world member flying to Bakersfield .
As a key connection point between their Asia-Pacific, North American and transatlantic networks, LAX was a natural choice for the location of the first premi um er passenger airport lounge developed by as a one world alliance project, which opened its doors at LAX's Tom Bradley International Terminal only a few months ago.
British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas collaborated to design and develop the facility, which includes separate lounges for First and Business Class passengers flying with any of these carriers, or for premium passengers flying with the alliance's other two carriers operating from the terminal - Japan Airlines and LAN - and one world Emerald or Sapphire tier frequent flyer cardholders from any one world member airline when flying on any of the alliance's carriers.
Although many lounges have been established around the world by individual pairings of the alliance's airlines, this is the first time a joint lounge has been developed from scratch on a one world basis.
These new one world lounges have been created to complement, rather than reflect, the carriers' own individual designs, employing a spacious "outside in" concept to evoke California 's sea and sand culture. Their fresh new, modern and contemporary design aims to mirror and enhance the premium brand positioning of each airline.
Signature design features include a bank of plasma screens in the reception area and a relaxing bar. The facility also includes nine showers, internet café-style work stations equipped with PCs and buffet areas. Customers will be are offered complimentary refreshments, wi-fi access, newspapers and magazines. First Class passengers will be are provided with personalised service.
Located on Tom Bradley International's Level 5, the 1,360 square-metre facility has space for 90 First Class and 210 Business Class passengers. It will be open from 9 am to 2 am.
American Airlines has its own Admirals Club and Flagship Lounges in its own Terminal 4, next door to Tom Bradley. Qantas also offers these facilities to its premium passengers departing on its flights operating from this terminal.
Japan Airlines also uses Los Angeles as base for its Americas regional head office, at El Segundo, close to LAX.
